Kingsmill to Host USTA Tennis Tournament

The Kingsmill Tennis Club will once again be the host site for a Women’s $10,000 USTA Pro Circuit Tennis Tournament in October. This year’s event will be the third year we have held a women’s professional tennis tournament at Kingsmill. Based on our past years experiences, we are expecting another week of great tennis from up and coming female players from all over the world.

The United States Tennis Association runs the Women’s Pro Circuit, holding tournaments throughout the country. Players earn ranking points based on their performance in these tournaments. These points are used to determine the world rankings. Events such as this one at Kingsmill Resort, with prize money at the $10,000 to $25,000 level, are for new pros looking to move up the professional ranks, for highly ranked junior and college players, and for players who once had high world rankings looking to move back to the top. The level of play is outstanding and includes players from all over the world—the US, Canada, Russia, Germany, Bulgaria, China, Brazil, and more. Players such as Maria Sharapova and Lindsay Davenport once played on the Pro Circuit while working their way up to the Grand Slam events. The 2010 winner at Kingsmill, American Lauren Davis, won the qualifying tournament at the 2011 Australian Open before losing to Maria Sharapova in the first round of the main draw. Lauren’s success demonstrates the high level of play that comes out of the starter tournaments.

The Kingsmill tournament includes both singles and doubles draws. The 64-player singles qualifying tournament will begin on Sunday, October 2nd. The 32 player main draw for singles will start on Tuesday with the semi-finals and finals scheduled for the weekend of October 8th & 9th.
