Celebrate the 4th of July in Colonial Williamsburg

The Place Where the Ideal of Democracy Began: In Williamsburg, the quest for independence took its first steps. On the Fourth of July, we celebrate America’s freedom and the Declaration of Independence. This July 4, walk where Thomas Jefferson, writer of the Declaration, once walked. Experience our nation’s birthday in a setting largely unchanged from 234 years ago. Imagine some of the founding fathers conferring and debating the issue of independence at the Capitol. Hear a reading of the Declaration of Independence, a simple document that proposed a new republic and was signed by 56 colonists, including 7 from Virginia. Watch performances from Colonial Williamsburg’s Fifes and Drums before summer skies are blanketed with a majestic display of fireworks in the Historic Area. On the Fourth of July, we celebrate America’s story.
