Commemorate America’s first Thanksgiving! In 1619, Capt. John Woodlief and 37 men made the voyage from England to land at what is now Berkeley Plantations. They fell to their knees and gave thanks for safe passage, beginning the tradition of Thanksgiving in America. Formal program at 2 p.m. includes re-enactment of the landing, choral music and the Chickahominy Indian Redman Dancers in a friendship dance in which everyone can participate. Re-enactors and musicians stroll the grounds throughout the day to interact with guests; families can participate in Colonial period games and activities; and browse vendors of food, arts, crafts and jewelry. Festival and gardens free; $3 parking. Berkeley Plantation is located at 12602 Harrison Landing Road in Charles City, VA. Visit the website or call 888-466-6018 for additional information.
