Monday, October 11 · 6:00pm – 9:00pm at the Corner Pocket
Come meet Mausi Kuhl, coffee farmer and owner of Selva Negra Coffee Estate. Selva Negra (Spanish for Black Forest) is a shining example of sustainable coffee farming located in the northern hills of Nicaragua. The estate has won the Specialty Coffee Association of America’s Sustainability Award which honors individuals, businesses and organizations in the coffee industry that have created innovative projects to expand and prom…ote sustainability. Selva Negra Coffee Estate makes sustainability a key focus in all aspects of their business, from hydro-electric and bio-methane power generated on the farm, to power their buildings to milk and dairy products, produce, ham, poultry, and eggs to feed their employees; they endeavor to be self-sufficient in everything they do.
A third of the 1,200-acre coffee estate is devoted to shade-grown coffee, a third is reserved for pastures and other crops, and the remaining third is covered with tropical forest. In 1997 they were certified Rainforest Alliance, and in 2005 they were certified Organic.
Williamsburg Coffee & Tea purchases Selva Negra’s entire micro-lot crop of Maragojipe coffee and is proud to host this event, in Mausi’s honor, where she will talk about her farm and ongoing efforts in sustainability. She will also gladly answer questions. Assorted Selva Negra coffees and hors d’oeuvres will be provided by Williamsburg Coffee & Tea; a cash bar is provided by The Corner Pocket.
There is no cost to attend this event, and it is open to the general public; however, RSVPs via email confirmation to WCT@wcoffee.com are greatly appreciated.
