Williamsburg tourism is making a marketing effort to promote the shoulder season as a great time to visit Williamsburg, Virginia. Below are some broad suggestions:
Christmas — Building on last year’s debut of Christmas Town at Busch Gardens, the Alliance plans to list all the area’s holiday events at ChristmasinWilliamsburg.com. A radio and television campaign will air as well in the Washington area. The campaign is designed to reach 90% of households nearly10 times within three to four weeks.
Gardens — The period from mid-April through mid-May will be rebranded as “Gardens of Williamsburg,” expanding Historic Garden Week to a month-long event.
Arts — In the fall, the focus is on the arts, highlighting the range of visual and performing arts and culminating in the expanded Occasion For The Arts Weekend.
Civil War — The Alliance is the marketing coordinator for the Sesquicentennial and will create print and online materials highlighting local locations and events. While no specific events have been identified, the 1862 Battle of Williamsburg looms large.
Sports — The Alliance will continue to push sports. A new marketing grant program is expected to enhance the prospects of attracting sporting events, especially youth sports, which tend to attract entire families.
